At Park Inc., we recognize that the world of parking management may seem confusing to a business owner who is considering adding valet parking service for customers and guests. This FAQ page offers some tips for choosing a valet parking service....
Q: I associate valet parking service with fancy, high-end restaurants and hotels. How can I tell if my event or business needs valet parking?
A: When considering whether a valet parking service is right for your business, hospital, medical center, or private function, think about the convenience of customers/attendees and the availability of parking. Any business that has a difficult parking situation can benefit from valet parking service. Hospitals with patients and visitors that have a difficult time getting to and from parking areas, construction projects that make finding available parking difficult, restaurants and clubs located in busy, congested down town areas, office buildings where employee parking is limited or distant, and airports that cater to the needs of busy travelers trying to save time before a flight are just a few scenarios that benefit from valet parking service.
Q: How do I pick a valet parking service for my restaurant, club, wedding, or private party?
A: Start by finding a company that is certified by the National Valet Parking Association. These companies are licensed and insured. They have strict requirements in the areas of customer service, employee training, claims handling, problem resolution, & adhere to all labor laws.
Q: How can we determine how many valet attendants are needed?
A: As a general rule, you should have 3 valets for every one-hundred guests. Of course this is just a guideline, and each business or event requiring valet parking service is unique. Any member of our operations and/or sales departments are qualified to make a recommendation for valet parking staffing levels. Our estimates are timely, accurate, & free of charge.
Q: Should the tip be included in my service agreement, or should my guests tip the valet attendants?
A: Generally, tips are given by the guests utilizing the valet parking service, but this is really a matter of preference. While most establishments allow gratuities to be accepted, many do not want to discourage patrons from using the service because they may not be able to afford to pay a gratuity. Hospitals that have a lot of low income patients and visitors may see a value in a “no tipping” policy. Other times, a host for a special event may want to take care of a gratuity themselves as a way of doing something extra for their guests.
Q: Does my insurance protect me from claims, or should I insist on seeing proof of insurance from the valet company?
A: A Certificate of Insurance can and should be provided by any quality parking management provider. Always ask a potential valet parking service company for a certificate of insurance that lists you as an additional insured on the valet company’s policy. Standard levels of coverage should include the following:
--General Liability, providing for any mishap causing personal injury, either by premises or attendant. Policy limit: $2,000,000
--Garage Keepers Liability, providing coverage for any property damage, such as collision or theft of vehicles. Policy limit: $1,000,000.
--Employee Dishonesty Coverage, protects your business from claims for loss of and loss from damage to, covered property such as money, equipment, or security. Policy limit: $500,000.
--Umbrella Liability, to provide excess coverage for General Liability in the amount of $10,000,000.
--Worker's Compensation, at a minimum, in accordance with State Law.
